CanWest Mediaworks CIII Tour For SMPTE Members

Toronto Section SMPTE Members will get a tour of the new HD Control rooms at CanWest Mediaworks CIII. The meeting will include short presentations by Eric Heidendahl, Director of Engineering CanWest Mediaworks and Gary Hodder, Broadcast system designer followed by a tour. The presentations include how an in-house technical workflow marvel called “Touchstream” was developed and the use of a 3d model that was used to mock up the new HD studio control rooms. Members will also be treated to a BBQ sponsored by Acura Technologies. More info at SMPTE Toronto’s website and please remeber that you must be a member to attend.

Why I’m Not Excited About Microsoft Anymore…

On the subject of Microsoft I read with interest today Steve Graegert’s blog on the lack of a Microsoft Fan Base. I think he nailed it along with the reasons why one needs to build a community and maitain a community. He writes; “Microsoft has not had perceived the value of communities to create wealth. Wealth is what the organization gets from the community and a community willing to create wealth must be honored, otherwise its members will turn their back to it. “.It’s worth a look in my opinion….

Jobs vs. Gates: Who’s the Star?

It talks about how “Bill Gates has been viewed as the villain of the tech world, while his archrival, Steve Jobs, enjoys an almost saintly reputation.” and how the opposite may be true.

Mixed Reality and Hybrid Computing Media Lab

My posts were a little slow this week because I found myself writing a detailed report on a Mixed Reality Environment that were constructing at the University that will include a Mixed Computing Media Lab. I’ll post more details of this concept as it becomes solid but that writin, coupled with the fact that I have to move the Secret Computer Museum this weekend.
