WOW – Magic Lantern’s EOS 5D Mark II Firmware Adds More Manual Controls

There are still some issues with this hack but EOS 5D Mark II owners will be interested new Magic Lantern firmware developed by Trammell Hudson. The new code adds on-screen audio meters, audio and video gain control with the option to disable the auto settings, zebra stripe masking of overexposed areas, and on-screen aspect ratio overlays It’s billed as an “open platform,” so there should be many more plugins and tweaks forthcoming.

I didn’t make the trek this year to InfoComm 2009 but as luck would have it I came across a stash of videos produced by rAVe [Publications]. Clay Shirky – It’s All About Conversations

I took the requisite 20 minutes out of my life this morning to watch Clay Shirky’s presentation at TED. It is very hard at times for me to explain to my colleagues how media has changed since the 1950’s, Shirky nails it here explaining that previous century’s media allowed for either individual conversations or addressing groups. He points out how the Internet is the first medium that allows both and supports that the Internet is all about conversations.

Shirky, who talks on the Internets effects, argues that emerging technologies enabling loose collaboration is changing the way our society works. He gives really great examples and explains how since the introduction of the Internet and the introduction of inexpensive technology has made everyone a consumer and a contributor. He explains why organizations have to employ Web 2.0 technologies to convene their community and not to try to control it.

To me he makes a strong case for using the Internet to convene a community and support it.

It’s all about conversations…..

It’s amazing how may people still don’t “get it”.
